FAA Regulations

The FAA requires drone operators to obtain a special waiver to conduct BVLOS operations. The FAA has established specific requirements that drone operators must meet to obtain a BVLOS waiver. These requirements include:

Having a certified remote pilot in command (RPIC) who has completed a training program on BVLOS operations
Using a drone equipped with technology that allows the RPIC to maintain visual contact with the drone and its flight path, even when the drone is beyond visual line of sight
Conducting a risk assessment and developing a mitigation plan for potential safety risks associated with BVLOS operations
Demonstrating the ability to communicate with air traffic control and other airspace users during BVLOS operations
Establishing a system for tracking and monitoring the drone's flight path and location during BVLOS operations

To obtain a BVLOS waiver, drone operators must submit a detailed waiver application to the FAA, including information on their proposed BVLOS operation, their drone and equipment, and their training and experience. The FAA may require additional information or documentation before granting a BVLOS waiver.

It's important to note that obtaining a BVLOS waiver can be a complex and time-consuming process. Drone operators should be prepared to invest significant time and resources into the waiver application process and should consult with experienced professionals to ensure that their applications are complete and accurate.
